The Island Council of Tenerife presents Monje Winery with the award for Best Practice in Sustainable Tourism in response to Covid-19 for its picnics. One of the new experiences prepared by Bodegas Monje for 2020, in response to the exceptional situation posed by covid. “Although 2020 was a very tough year for the tourism sector, it has also given us the opportunity to rethink our tourism practices and orient them towards sustainability,” explains Felipe Monje, winemaker and director of the winery. Thus, the new Vive Monje Sustainable Picnics are here to stay.
Commitment with sustainability
Monje Winery’s picnics aim to elevate the experience of eating in the countryside to a new level, both in terms of sustainability and the use of local products.
The containers, crockery and cutlery used to enjoy the picnics are made from recycled materials and are 100% recyclable or reusable. In addition, the products on the menu are Km0 and come from local producers who promote organic agriculture and livestock. In this way, the picnics allow us to give back to the local economy all the possibilities it offers us. The prepared menus serve to support small local businesses and small producers. We guarantee to offer products of first quality that cannot be found in the great surfaces. The Vive Monje Picnics are another opportunity to show our strong support for local producers and traditional Canarian products.
In addition to its commitment to sustainability through picnics, Bodegas Monje has also created new activities that focus on local tourism and sustainable wine tourism. Proof of this is its new Wine&Tours catalogue, which seeks to encourage local and national tourism from an environmentally friendly perspective.
