Our director Felipe Monje received the San Andrés 2022 Award on 30 November.
This commemorative event took place at the Casa del Vino in El Sauzal, celebrating the day of the uncorking of wine in Tenerife, a festivity that represents the work of winemakers and winegrowers.
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Pedro Martín, presented the award to Felipe Monje, highlighting his career in the winery and in viticulture.
San Andrés 2022 Award
Since 1996, the Cabildo de Tenerife has been awarding the San Andrés Awards in recognition of those who have excelled in their work in the wine sector. This award ceremony is held to commemorate the uncorking day of the island of Tenerife.
Pedro Martín highlighted the importance of wine production on the island, acknowledging the work of all those present. In this special celebration, it is recalled that in Tenerife there are six Denominations of Origin, whose production highlights the richness and uniqueness of the island’s wine production.
The family tradition of Bodegas Monje
“It is an honour for me to receive this important recognition for the wine sector in Tenerife”, Felipe declared. This award is the result of a long family tradition that dates back to 1750, when the Monje family began to produce wine.
Felipe Monje belongs to the fifth generation of winemakers, surrounded by everything related to wine since his childhood. His father Miguel Monje was awarded the same prize in 1997.
In 1983, Felipe took over the winery, continuing with the tradition, but also betting on wine tourism.
Innovation and wine experiences
From his beginnings as director, Felipe has not stopped innovating, making his winery an obligatory stop for visitors and locals alike. Restaurant, visits, tastings, events, exhibitions, tours… Bodegas Monje has a wide and original offer, which goes beyond the traditional wineries.
So much so that our winery has been selected as one of the best wineries to visit in Europe according to the prestigious Decanter magazine.
