The centenary winery of Tenerife obtains the recognition that rewards excellence in its gastronomic and wine tourism services. An award that is only achieved by 10% of the best establishments on the website. Bodegas Monje receives the TripAdvisor Travelers Choice Award 2020, a distinction awarded based on the evaluations of its visitors. Only those establishments that continually receive outstanding evaluations can achieve this recognition, also known as a Certificate of Excellence. In fact, it is awarded to less than 10% of the best establishments on the website.
Under the motto Vive Monje, the winery has made a great effort to expand its offer of wine tourism and gastronomic experiences. In recent years, it has incorporated activities such as underwater wine tastings, art exhibitions, gourmet picnics, helicopter tours, or custom-designed experiences. “We are pleased to see that our daily work is appreciated by our visitors”, says Felipe Monje, winemaker and director of the winery, gratefully. “With this award also comes a great responsibility to continue improving and offering excellent services”.
Monje family has shared their passion for wine from generation to generation since 1750. “My father taught me that wine is much more than just a drink,” explains Felipe. “It is a way of sharing special moments and experiences with those who matter to us; there is a whole culture that revolves around it”. Despite all its years of history, Bodegas Monje has always known how to adapt and reinvent itself according to new times.
2020, a year full of challenges and new plans for the future
During the months of confinement, Bodegas Monje had to stop its wine tourism activity and used of that time to reinvent itself. “We made an even stronger commitment to the digital channel and we began to anticipate what a new way of practicing wine tourism would entail”, says the director.
Thus, with the return to activity, the winery adapted all its facilities, presented its Covid-19 Mitigation and Prevention Plan and received the Covid-19 Safe Establishment certification. In addition, it presented new activities tailored for the situation, such as outdoor picnics and private tours for small groups.
Bodegas Monje also used the opportunity to join the #EnoturismoParaSanitarios initiative, proposed by Ocio Vital. “We wanted to thank the important work of those who have worked so hard for us”, says Felipe. “It has been a pleasure to receive all the front-line personnel who have watched over everyone during these months and who continue to do so”.
This autumn, the winery will present the renewal of its wine tourism offer Wine & Tours and will bet even more on local and national tourism to continue renewing the wine tourism sector in the Canary Islands. “A year-end full of surprises and new projects awaits us to continue providing valuable experiences to our visitors.”
