TENERIFE

The island of Tenerife is the largest of the seven islands that form the Canarian Archipelago and it is also the richest in microclimates, thanks to the ecological scale of it´s volcanic and mountainous formation that culminates in the peak of El Tiede, the tallest point in Spain, 3,718 meters above sea level.

Here in Tenerife, we are very lucky to benefit from the soft trade winds, which soften the seasons and make it the perfect climate for growing grapes. The vine first made an appearance in the Canary Islands after the conquest in the 15th century when settlers arrived with different varieties of vine from their country of origin… Spain, France, Italy, Portugal. The flourishing development of viticulture became the main source of the island´s income between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The famous sweet wine Malvasía was exported to the European courts and to the colonies of America and Africa under the name Canary of Sack. Quite often, wine was used as a currency for exchanging goods between merchants who used the island as a stopover during expeditions.

From that splendid period we have inherited a great number of grape varieties: Verdello, Vijariego, Torrontes, Marmajuelo, Listán Blanco, Listán Negro, Listán Prieto, Negramoll, Tintilla, Sabro and many others, all of which have never been touched by the Filoxera virus.
